What the job actually is

Panels arrive here after a season on the road. Dead clusters, whole dark modules, a receiving card that stopped listening, water where water should not be. Your job is to find out why, fix it at component level, and write down what you found so the customer can read it in six months and still understand it.

Most of what reaches us has already been somewhere that replaced the obvious part. Nine times out of ten the fault is upstream of what was swapped, and finding that is the actual skill.

What you already know

• Soldering and rework on surface mount boards, confidently, including fine pitch
• How to read a schematic and follow a fault through it rather than guessing
• Basic test gear as a matter of habit: meter, scope, bench supply
• Enough about LED display to know what a receiving card does and why pitch matters

If you have come from consumer electronics, industrial control or broadcast rather than live events, that is fine. The discipline transfers. The vocabulary takes a fortnight.

What we will teach you

Panel and module handling, which is its own craft and where most damage in this trade is made rather than found. Manufacturer specific processing. Running modules on a live processor at brightness, which is the only test that tells the truth.

The practical bits

Workshop in Uxbridge, west of London. Standard week is Monday to Friday, and we do not expect the bench to be on the road every week. Some on site work if you want it. Rework stations, a microscope, a live processor and the manufacturer documentation for the fixtures we see most.

Twenty five days holiday plus bank holidays. If you need a course to do the job properly, ask for it.
