What the job actually is

Fixtures come in that will not home, grind on a colour wheel, or have quietly stopped listening to DMX halfway through a run. You strip them, find out why, and put them back together so the next hire goes out without anybody worrying about it.

A lot of this is preventative rather than reactive. A rental house that has us service a rig in February has a much quieter summer, and the units we see twice a year are not the units that fail on a show.

What you already know

• Moving head fixtures inside and out, from at least one of the main manufacturers
• Pan and tilt mechanics, belts, gears and the way a worn one presents before it fails
• DMX and RDM well enough to tell a fixture fault from a data fault
• Board level diagnosis, or the appetite to learn it here

What we will teach you

Component level electronics if you have been swapping boards until now. That is the direction this bench works in, and it is the part of the job that makes a customer stay.

The practical bits

Workshop in Uxbridge, west of London. Monday to Friday, with occasional on site days for warehouse servicing if that appeals. Full test rig, manufacturer documentation, and the parts stock to actually finish a job rather than park it.

Twenty five days holiday plus bank holidays. Training paid for where it makes you better at the work.
